Studies have shown, the less someone sleeps, the more they end up eating!
Do you always feel the need to grab a snack from the
cabinet whenever you go to the kitchen? Do you feel urged to open the fridge
every now and then, just in the hope that you'll find something tempting enough
to eat? It isn't your fault. Your sleeping habits are the ones to blame.
Studies have recently shown that, the less sleep a
person gets, the more they end up eating and eventually putting on as weight.
In the long run, this can lead to even more dangerous illnesses such as heart
disease, obesity, diabetes, etc.
Researchers state that, there are a number of reasons
for someone who sleeps less to eat more. A lack of sleep can lead to a person
eating more because it modifies the hormones which control our appetite.
The 'Hunger Hormones' are known as Leptin and
Ghrellin. After a night of sleeping uncomfortably with all the tossing and
turning from side to side, the levels of Ghrellin, or the Hormone which
strengthens appetite, become higher and therefore stronger. These,
simultaneously with the levels of the hormone Leptin coincide to make us feel
hungry. The leptin hormone sends signals to the brain when fat cells are
full.
Tired people also end up going through greater
emotional anxiety and are more reckless. This in turn leads to them constantly
going through meals of ‘comfort eating’ and also, the inability to resist
tempting food. They might also eat more to compensate for a lack of
energy.
