The Latest Food Trend of 2017: Eat Purple For Good Health

Latest Research has found that the more Purple foods you consume, the healthier they can prove to be for you.


With the year of 2016 finally reaching it's end point, it's that time of the year again. Time to make our yearly resolutions for the approaching year. If you haven't ever tried different 'Purple' foods, 2017 year would definitely be a year worthwhile, full of new experiences. Be sure to add this to your resolution list for the year! 

A recent study has been undertaken by 'Whole Foods'. They examined the consumer behavior of around 500 stores across the globe. They have decided to introduce purple foods in particular to the shelves of these grocery stores. They have described this circumstance as a fast growing trend. Purple foods are appearing everywhere in the market these days such as Purple Asparagus, Purple Cauliflower, Purple sweet potatoes, Purple corn, Acai, elder berries, black rice and cereal. 



 


These purple foods are not only attractive in their looks with bright and radiant colors, but they also carry numerous health benefits for us. All of these purple foods contain Anti-oxidants which are known to fight off inflammation, diseases, reduce the risks of cancer and heart disease, keep our blood pressure to a reduced level and lastly, keep us looking younger and feeling younger too. 


It has been discovered that, the darker the 'Purple' color of a food, the higher the amount of nutrients and antioxidants it may contain. 

To support this study, it has been found that, people who ate purple food (fruits and vegetables) on a regular basis, had a reduced risk of getting high blood pressure and maintained good (low) cholesterol.



Here are a few 'Purple' foods you should get your hands on in 2017:





Purple Sweet Potatoes:

Sweet potatoes have always been known for the numerous health benefits they carry. However, these Purple Sweet potatoes hold within themselves even more benefits. They are known as "Okinawan" potatoes. They help the human body in regulating it's digestive system as well as containing many anti-inflammatory properties.

 

Black Rice:

Black Rice or "Forbidden Rice" as it used to be known due to the fact that it was produced on a small scale as compared to the normal whole wheat rice people eat, holds many nutritional health benefits for us. Black rice is rich in Iron and Vitamin E. It helps us against the fight for aging, and also allows us to have a reduced risk of heart disease. The flavor the rice holds is more of a nutty and mild one. 


Acai Berries:

These berries have became very famous among people who want to lose weight easily in recent years. They can even be found in a number of weight loss pills and medications. These berries do not only aid in the combat against putting off our weight but also have been proven to fight against cardiovascular diseases. Acai berries also help the human body in the blood stream by improving blood circulation and getting rid of any blood clots. 


Purple Asparagus: 

Green Asparagus, or the normal Asparagus which is a major part of our dinner table has been known to us since forever, but have you ever heard about Purple Asparagus?
Purple Asparagus has originated from Italy. These Asparagus are very important for our immune system as they contain numerous vitamins within them (Vitamin A, B, C and K). 


 Purple Corn:

 Although unusual, Purple Corn is a  grain which is cultivated in the  mountains of Peru. These grains are  have the highest antioxidant contents  within them
